A compilation of haunted places, urban legends and just flat out weird occurrences in the weirdest city out there.

The Driskill Hotel

Arguably the most haunted building in the city, the Driskill Hotel is home to many ghosts, including Colonel Driskill himself! If you're in for a thrill book room 525, one of the hubs of ghostly activity. It was closed for years due to the "suicide brides" urban legend, and after staff opened it in 1998 many strange things happened. Oakwood Cemetery

It's the oldest cemetery in Austin, and with plenty of unmarked graves its spooky reputation is no wonder. It's rumored medical professors stole freshly buried bodies from here for their students in the early 1900s and their souls still wander around the premise since they were never allowed to rest in peace.

Austin Pizza Garden

According to the Oak Hill Gazette, in 1879 Austin Pizza Garden was a general store that belonged to a Texas Ranger. His daughter, Rosa Patton, married John Dudley White, also a Texas Ranger, who died in the line of duty. Some say it is his spirit that roams around Austin Pizza Garden still looking for his wife.

Wooten Building

According to Austin Ghost Tours, the ghost in this building likes to make a lot of noise. You can hear his footsteps on the staircase, conversations or commotion in another room and if you stand at the turn of the main staircase he'll send a chill down your spine to turn you away. On one occasion a gust of wind tousled a guest and his bedsheets... click on the link below to read the whole story from Austin Ghost Tours.

A famous madam who used to own Oilcan Harry's as a brothel is rumored to still haunt the now turned gay bar. People have seen a beautiful woman at the bar and dancing on the floor but, never dancing with anyone else.

Metz Elementary
Picture
When construction crews were building the school, they encountered a lot of weird, inexplicable events. The laughter of young children (although none were around) was common, some workers even thought they were inside the walls. Equipment began breaking for no reason, so the building ran off a few construction crews before it was completed. Read more about the schools haunted past from a blogger on the link below.

The Long Center is proud to present the wonderful and hilarious Kathy Griffin, November 22 in Dell Hall.   That’s right Austin, she’s back! If multiple HBO and Bravo specials weren’t enough – catch double Emmy award winning Kathy Griffin live in her true element. She has more stories, more dish, more of what she shouldn’t say but you know you want to hear. Come with an open mind and laugh until you cry!   Double Emmy winning and Grammy nominated Chicago native Kathy Griffin, a multi-faceted performer with a rapid fire wit, is probably best known for her four-year stint on the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan” as Vickie Groener, Brooke Shields’ acerbic colleague.   After moving west and joining the famed Los Angeles Groundlings comedy improvisational troupe, Kathy began building her resume with guest starring roles on such series as “ER” and “Seinfeld” – where she created recurring character Sally Weaver.   After her various TV guest spots, Kathy began gaining notice as a stand-up comedienne and landed her own “HBO Half Hour Comedy Special.” In 1998, HBO gave Kathy her own One-Hour Special, “A Hot Cup of Talk.”   Tickets available online.
