A compilation of haunted places, urban legends and just flat out weird occurrences in the weirdest city out there. The Driskill Hotel  Arguably the most haunted building in the city, the Driskill Hotel is home to many ghosts, including Colonel Driskill himself! If you're in for a thrill book room 525, one of the hubs of ghostly activity. It was closed for years due to the "suicide brides" urban legend, and after staff opened it in 1998 many strange things happened. One ghost, well-known to many regulars at the Capitol remains much a mystery. A woman in a long red dress has been seen in various areas around the building but no one seems to know who this ghost might be. It's rumored medical professors stole freshly buried bodies from here for their students in the early 1900s and their souls still wander around the premise since they were never allowed to rest in peace. Credit: KXAN Related: Morning Walk at Oakwood Cemetery Austin Pizza Garden  According to the Oak Hill Gazette, in 1879 Austin Pizza Garden was a general store that belonged to a Texas Ranger. His daughter, Rosa Patton, married John Dudley White, also a Texas Ranger, who died in the line of duty. Some say it is his spirit that roams around Austin Pizza Garden still looking for his wife. You can hear his footsteps on the staircase, conversations or commotion in another room and if you stand at the turn of the main staircase he'll send a chill down your spine to turn you away. People have seen a beautiful woman at the bar and dancing on the floor but, never dancing with anyone else. Credit: KXAN Related: Oilcan Harry's Metz Elementary  When construction crews were building the school, they encountered a lot of weird, inexplicable events. The laughter of young children (although none were around) was common, some workers even thought they were inside the walls. (KXAN) - Overnight storms dumped even more rain on a saturated Central Texas on Thursday that sent crews scrambling to handle numerous reports of water rescues and forcing dozens of people in several areas from their homes. Some areas reported up to 16 inches of rain as the storm marched west to east from the Hill Country and through Bastrop County. Onion Creek in Southeast Austin reached a record high level and several other waterways that had been parched by months of drought were brimming over their bounds. The bright spot was that by 7:30 a.m., the heaviest part of the system was moving past the Interstate 35 corridor. But as dawn broke across the region reports of flooded neighborhoods and people in distress streamed across the emergency service dispatch radios. One of the most dramatic reports came during the overnight hours from a woman in labor who was trapped by the fast-rising waters near Spicewood Springs Road. By 6 a.m., several hours after the initial reports came in, Austin-Travis County EMS workers were able to reach the woman. According to officials, the woman had been cut off by two low-water crossings and crews were attempting to get to her using a rescue boat. At 2 a.m., crews on the scene reported water was traveling at 6,000 cubic feet per second and heavy debris were littering the creek. Hours later in Southeast Austin, several people had to be rescued from the high waters near Bluff Springs Road. The First Independent Baptist Church was half submerged. Numerous reports of similar emergencies poured in from all over the KXAN viewing area. Around 1 a.m. that Bull Creek was covering Loop 360 in Northwest Austin. Evacuations were also taking place along areas of Brushy Creek in Hutto. In addition, approximately 14 residents along CR 129 in Williamson County had been evacuated. Related Content
